Bows and Boys

Bows and boys are only two different words because of one letter. But boys and bows are kind of like oil and water, in my experience. I think that the bow is an acquired taste, and one that mostly the ladies possess. Just saying.

Bows and Bikes

I love bows, and I love bikes. This sounds all good and well, but there is an issue with the two at once. Bike helmets smash bows. I try to wear medallion style bows under my helmet, but sometimes it is still quite awkward.

I will find a solution eventually.

To all the people with unread blogs...

Keep blogging. One day you will want to look back and see how much has changed (or not) over time. I feel your pain sometimes, but I am going to update everyone (or my mom, whichever) on the progress of my slow-going peacock project.
My suite mates teased me that these looked like eyes. Or boobs.
I figure that when they are all together, they will look less boob-like...

New project with peacock colors.

Here is my first hexagon for the peacock project. What do you think? The basis of the hexagon in crochet is a circle, hence the circles. Also, I wanted the stronger colors in the inside and outside of the hexagon.

The Camo Bow

It's not really camouflage, but It blends in with my hair pretty well. I invented this popcorn stitch flower in my head while working in lab, and then I actually crafted it at lunch. The headband is from the bible.

The 101

So I crocheted a lot today. So much so that I am too tired to take/post pictures of it, so I will show it tomorrow, probably. I learned a popcorn stitch pattern and a pattern that reminds me of bridges to make 2 new headbands, and a lacy flower as well.

For day 101, I want to propose an idea. Any St. Louis crafters who would like to congregate after 5 pm on a weeknight, I would love to have a crafting circle. Hit me up!

Day 100 festivities!

I made a spiral to celebrate my whirlwind bow adventure! I put it on my door with my red bow tie and flower. Thank you for sticking with me for 100 days!
I didn't realize it, but the flowers I got for my parents on their anniversary also has a bow. Bows are all around!
100 days of bow love all in one!

Faux picots on my bows (if pronounced correctly, this will rhyme)

Here is a new headband and bow combo I made from the Crochet Bible.

I also bought some yarn today from my LYS (local yarn store) because they are having a moving sale. I love discounts. Pictures to come. I also made a spiral and put it on my door with my other bows. It is made out of 1.5 mm thread and looks pretty cool, if I do say so myself. Definitely not perfect though.

This is a basket weave headband with a faux picot flower.
Plain band. Looks better in reality.

More to come soon!

Irish Bow from Crochet Bible.

I added it to my new headband from the post prior to this one.

This pattern is from my crochet book that I just got from my sister.

My family is gone :( My hiatus is over : )

While in STL, my family took me on a stay-cation. Yay! I worked for 45 minutes to an hour per day. My sister bought me the crocheting bible, which has all sorts of crocheting magic and patterns.
It has a glare and is backward writing, but you get the gist.
It has Tibetan and Irish crochet, shell stitches, borders, zig-zags, you name it! I tried this new border stitch as a headband. What do you think?

I really like it!
Bow Love! I am so glad to be back into my blogging groove and I am psyched to make my first real Afghan at some point.

The patriotic project!

Check out what I've been working on... A Fourth of July, patriotic, table runner for my mom. Here it is, progress and all!

I hope you like it! I totally want to make an Afghan now.

Crochet/progress love!

Bow Girl.

PS. I have been (ironically) crocheting too much to post this, since I made this over the course of a few days.
PPS. I got a bow necklace that I love from my sister. Thanks, D.

Working like a busy bee

I am trying to finish my project by manana! So much work to do! I am getting there. I have to decide how elaborate I want it to be.

Decisions, decisions!

Many surprises in store...

I started a new project that is super fun to work on and I am VERY excited about this experimental new thing. It is patriotic and fantastic. I love teasers, and I am super excited for my parents to come to St. Louis so they can see the new project first.

I went to Shakespeare in the Park's production of Taming of the Shrew, where I got a lovely compliment on my classic, old-school blue bow. Lovely!

My firework has a headband and my cupcake has a cup

Sorry for the delay...

So I think I mentioned buying some new supplies. They've arrived!
Here is what I got:

• A set of hooks ranging from 3.75 mm to 6.00 mm
• A 2.5 mm thread hook (it lights up!)
• 1.5 mm thread in multicolor and beige-ish
• Microspun royal blue yarn
• Athletic gray yarn
• Cocoa brown yarn

The light up hook is pretty cool but the light is distracting. Novel in the dark though.

Here are some pics!
Thread and hooks
Yarn!
Cool patterning on spool!

Later on I will show the cupcake with its wrapper on. I used the multicolor thread to make a festive cup for my red velvet cupcake (the jury is in; it is indeed red velvet).

The two sides of me...

There they are!
Since life dealt me red and white yarn of different gauges, I decided stripes were going to be a disaster so I made a round, patriotic "firework" for flag day/4th of July. Making lemons into lemonade yet again. I still need to make a headband for it.

Excuses...

I have a crick in my neck and I am planning my New England trip, plus I took a friend to Target to help her out. And don't forget the Wash U Career Center Party!! That is why there are no new pictures today... because I didn't crochet at all...

Sorry, guys!

Indicative...

Everything I have made in the last little while is giving me grief! The bunny ears won't stand up and the flag bow for Flag Day/4th of July is just being super annoying.
This is definitely indicative of the rest of my life right now too.

Today is not my day.

A real landmark, perhaps?

This Wednesday ends the first quarter of my bowstravaganza... 12.5 weeks into this shindig, I am still going strong, and I think that I am likely to succeed at this point. Only 2 days away! : )
Crocheting to come soon (hopefully later today)!

Red velvet or carrot? Your call!

I made a 2nd cupcake, and it turned out better than the first. The supplies I need for the cupcake's little paper sleeve are due to arrive in about a week. I needed a thread instead of yarn and a smaller needle size, so I splurged a bit on that. I also bought some supplies for the class I am going to teach!

Bow Girl wants you...

I need help finding a solution to fix my floppy bunny ear problem. If you notice in the picture below, no one is modeling the bunny ears... This is not because I am feeling extra camera shy today... it's because they won't stand up. Any cheap solutions? I don't have wire and I want to finish these this weekend for the grad student who asked for them. Like the cat ears, I made pattern this up as I went along.

Also, I always try to think of what I want to be for Halloween nice and early... Making all of these ears has reminded me that summer is when I started last year. Last year's costume required hours and hours and HOURS of work (at least 15) and ended up being kinda disastrous, but I think I am going to wear a blue dress and crochet some accessories in order to be a peacock. I really want to be one. I could use my blue juliet cap and add some detailing to be my feather plume. What do YOU want to be for Halloween?

Cat ear success leads to more ear business

Another grad student in my lab asked my for bunny ears. I will be posting pictures of them soon as well. I am mostly done with them, but I figured I'd give myself a bit more of a break on a Friday. Also, I took a break tonight playing Mafia, the children's game. I got bored with it quite quickly, so I ended up crocheting and hanging out in my suite with some of my apartment mates.

I finally gave in...

I bought the cupcake pattern I've had my eye on for some time now. The pattern was pretty similar to the one I tried, but I missed a few key things that made the difference between an amorphous blob and a cute cupcake. Pictures to come soon!!

Cat ears for a grad student in my lab.

I finished them finally! Here I am modeling them even though they aren't for me. Nicole+modeling=laughter. Except maybe bow modeling, and that is usually because I have no one else to wear them for me.
